About the Program
The Trauma Informed Safety and Care (TISC) program is an industry best-practice experience divided into 4 focused areas of learning and has been designed specifically to support front-line workers attending crisis situations, or those that work with vulnerable groups or people engaging in behaviours of concern that put themselves or others at significant risk of harm.

Participants will be able to articulate what matters to them when working with vulnerable groups, identify trauma-informed strategies that can aid delivery of skills and supports without bias and with control, and apply best practice person-centred learning principles to sensitive situations.
Through a Practicum of industry-leading insight and collaborative activities, evidenced by a contemporary theoretical component, TISC is designed to help reduce the use of reactive strategies when supporting people in crisis. In so doing, this promotes trauma informed care, a positive communication skill set, sound and proven de-escalation techniques, all within a safe, trusting and respectful environment.

TISC promotes the idea that self-awareness in frontline workers encourages resilience and bias awareness, strengthened through ongoing self-reflection and de-briefing; tools that can aid in supporting the safety of clients who are at risk. Resilience encourages self-control over action and impulse which, in situations where trauma may be present, is critical. Effective communication strategies, non-provocative body language, the regulation of emotions and controlled and purposeful behaviours by the worker can positively influence a client's behaviour. The aim is to shift the focus from behaviour management to behaviour support so that there are improved long-term outcomes for vulnerable people in crisis situations.
TISC is designed to aid workers to identify and conceptualise the professional and personal qualities they can offer to vulnerable people and to their respective industry in terms of person-centred skills, values and life learnings. At the same time, gaps or weaknesses may also be identified as a positive step in self-reflection and self-improvement. The skills, sense of self and purpose developed by course participants will contribute to building a ‘living’ Community of Practice for industry sectors to learn, share and create knowledge and resources; improving outcomes for vulnerable people and those who support and care for them.
TiSC is a for-purpose collaboration developed to work with government, businesses and not-for-profits, facilitating support and training in trauma informed care Australia wide. Programs can be facilitated online or in locations as negotiated and agreed to with the client, based on client requirements including numbers attending (online or in-person); and whether the program is being livestreamed or filmed.
